Friends of St Marys

Friends of St Mary’s is a registered charitable trust, established in 2006, dedicated to raising funds to help maintain, restore and preserve the fabric of the beautiful Church of St. Mary Rushden, for the benefit of the whole community. The present building was mostly erected in the 12th century and has a superb tower and 172ft spire. Inside there is a strainer arch (one of only three in England) and a 14th century pulpit and font.

Throughout the year “Friends” puts on a wide variety of entertainment, from concerts featuring a wide range of music, Pudding Club evenings, Sunday Cream Teas and Curry nights to participation in National Heritage celebrations. These have featured demonstrations of rural crafts by stonemasons and woodcarvers, a display of birds of prey flown in the church and Teddy bears parachuting from the tower !

Everyone is welcome to join us on any event, whether a registered member of “Friends” or not. For those taking out annual membership, the subscriptions are just £10 for an individual, £15 per couple and £20 for a family of up to four. There are great benefits too … discounts on ticketed events, regular updates on all activities, twice yearly newsletters and the opportunity to attend the annual FREE “Friends” Day held every summer.

Our current membership is a little over 100 people of all ages from babies to nonagenarians. If you would like to join them, or want further information, feel free to contact John Allen on 01933 652222 or
