For Mission in our Local Community:   Chaplains in local prisons

At the end of this week of prayer for Prisons: We pray for Bedford Prison: for all who live and work there; for safety in the daily tasks; and for families affected by crime – whether victims of crime or those with a loved one serving a sentence. We also pray for the new prison being built at Wellingborough, praying for the staff who will work there and the Chaplaincy team, that through their care and concern many lives will be changed and that men, on release, will begin to live crime free.

For our Partners in Mission: Church Pastoral Aid Society (CPAS)

CPAS is an Anglican Evangelical Mission Agency working in the UK and Republic of Ireland whose mission is to help every person hear and discover the good news of Jesus Christ through the ministry of local churches. We pray for their work, especially for the half term Holiday Camps which they are soon to lead: praying for the preparations, the Leaders and for all who will attend, that the Holiday will be a time of fun and learning about Jesus that will have a lasting spiritual effect on their lives.

Ancient Israel’s Cosmology

‘Proper interpretation of the Bible requires an understanding of the original context in which it was written. This is particularly true for the ot. God chose a specific time, place, and culture in which to inspire faithful persons to produce what we read in the ot: the ancient Mediterranean and the ancient Near East of the second and first centuries bc. Understanding their worldview leads to more faithful understandings on our part, as misreadings result from assuming the biblical writers thought, believed, and acted as we do.’
